The LIBERAL family ran the property in the early eighteenth century. The family's business, working as an intermediary between wine producers and the market, enabled them to build a fortune and acquire vineyard land. The wine's reputation was quite good, enough so that the estate was classified Fifth Growths in the Classification of 1855.

In 1960 it was sold to a consortium which included the Cruse family. The property would regain his youth when, they would launch an extensive program of replanting the vineyard and installed new equipment.

However, it was in 1983 at the arrival of the Villars family that Chateau Haut-Bages Liberal really recovered its former glory. Today, the property is run by Claire VILLARS LURTON. She undertook an overhaul of the tool of wine making and has adopted a new approach to the environment.

Blackberry on the nose and palate, with toasty oak and coffee bean character. Medium to full-bodied, with fine tannins and a fruity finish.
